Our Story
Liz’s Day is an annual event held in Floral Park, NY, supporting breast cancer research. It was first started in October of 1999 after Elizabeth McFarland tragically lost her life to breast cancer in June of 1999. Liz was a lifelong resident of Floral Park and a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. The day was created to spread awareness throughout the community and raise funds to donate in the hope of finding a cure for breast cancer.
This cherished event offers a variety of activities that make Liz's Day a great success. Live music, children's rides, a kick-off parade, and our famous bucket auction are just a few of the attractions that draw the community together. In addition, custom merchandise, a plant sale, and book sale also add to the excitement, attracting thousands of members of the community each year.
Over the last twenty plus years, Liz's Day has made a significant impact, successfully donating over $1,000,000 to various breast cancer organizations, including the esteemed Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a renowned nonprofit research institute, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This achievement has been possible thanks to the dedication of a group of men and women who have worked tirelessly to make Liz's Day an event that residents of all ages eagerly anticipate year after year.
Through Liz's Day, the community comes together to honor the memory of Elizabeth McFarland and to contribute to the fight against breast cancer. With each passing year, the event continues to inspire hope and optimism as progress is made in breast cancer research. Together, the participants, organizers, and supporters strive to create a future where breast cancer is no longer a threat, honoring Liz's memory and the legacy of strength and unity she left behind.
